I absolutely loved the first series, but this book was borderline pornograpgic! Sex, genitalia, and the storyline was very redundant. Room after room after room tunnel after tunnel after tunnel. If i had read this book first I would not have read any other by him nor would I have recommended this author. I will go on to book two of this series but I certainly hope it isn't going to be the same as book 1

The Box The Temple of the Blind #1 edition by Brian Harmon Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

Once I started the book, I had to keep reading. A few technical problems with the writing, but the actual story kept me reading. Definitely tense and creepy. I just started the second book. Only four more to go! Liked the characters. Like I said, a few little things could be improved but the story moved along. Original idea.
This is one of the only reviews I've ever written, and I write it simply to inform other potential readers... this is a creepy book! That said, I was not able to stop reading because every time I put it down I couldn't quit thinking about what was going on in the story; it seemed to haunt my thoughts when my mind was idle. A significant portion of the story deals with "taboo" situations and emotions, but Harmon really hits a nerve that makes it difficult to stop reading. I found myself squinting to try and avoid what my imagination was creating.

Bottom line, it's a good book. If you like horror and dark suspense, it will be right up your alley. If that sounds a little too dark and based on this review you may skip this one, I strongly strongly strongly recommend Harmon's other book series containing "Rushed," and "Rushed The Unseen." They are both excellent books and more thriller/suspense than horror... Now go find another review to read, I have to jump into the next book in this series.
Okay... i can be critical of the writing in places, the five star is generous in some ways, some bits are rather awkward and so over her soft eyes etc. Harden up Brian on these female characters, i feel you are always having a fantasy on your own ideal gal. But the story is so good!! This is really good horror, I have read the Rushed books. You are an excellent creator of original horror, and creating twists and surprises. My key word here is original... Brian Harmon's books are definitely not like anything i have read before.
I grew up reading "The Three Investigators" and "The Hardy Boys" before graduating to Agatha Christie's "Hercule Poirot" mystery series. Now usually I don't find too many books all that interesting anymore in my middle age (the last good recent one being Mary Doria Russell's excellent "The Sparrow".) However, this one stands out as a gem.

It is rare to find an author that brings a fresh writing style and successfully combines pseudo-horror, pseudo-erotic and mystery in one book! It is exciting to see a new author doing what Robert Asprin's "Thieves World" and "Myth" series did years ago -- someone willing to take a chance, be authentic, have faith in himself and his ability, and synthesize a new genre. Brian's writing strikes a good balance between simplicity and complexity. The pacing is good, along with good character development. The writing is very accessible as I finished the book in about 2 to 3 hours. Much like Albert the reader "wants to know what is at the end." Kudos for writing a engaging and compelling story. The journey along the way is enjoyable due to it successfully combining genres.

The only minor criticisms I would (hesitantly) add, and this is nitpicking, is that
a) there are still unanswered questions (hopefully other books in the series will answer them), and
b) the author's website is visually bland which makes for harder reading then it should be (fortunately the content of his blog provides interesting tidbits into his writing process so if one can overlook the presentation the function IS there.)

For a free eBook you have nothing to lose except maybe a few hours -- and I would wager any mystery fan will enjoy the time spent!

I really hope to see a "Temple of the Blind" Collected Stories eBook edition for $9.99 containing all 6 books bringing closure to the series.

Keep an eye on this author! I know I will be.
So...that was interesting. Seriously. If you like books that play with your brain and have a substantial amount of sex while being so twisted they keep you on the edge of your seat, this is your book! I started it, not really sure what to expect. I read it all in one sitting, staying up half the night because I had to find out wtf was going on.

*spoiler*
You don't. You don't find out what's going on. Hence all the damn sequels.

My only complaints are the author's tendency to slip into different points of view randomly. Most of the book is in the POV (third person) of the main protag. But randomly, for only a paragraph or two in the middle of a page, it would slip into the girl's (Brandy) point of view. Just enough to make you go, "what just happened. Now I'm reading her personal thoughts" kinda thing. The author also over used the descriptor "pretty" to describe EVERYTHING female in the first thirty pages. Pretty voice, pretty face, pretty eyes, pretty hair, pretty everything. And not just once, but if the same girl was mentioned in consecutive pages, he would restate all their pretty qualities, using the descriptor, you guessed it, "pretty."

But seriously, my woes are small compared to the enjoyment I got from reading it. I will be purchasing the sequels, most definitely. After I allow my brain to settle down.
This was a total surprise for me. I added this book to my some time ago but, for some reason, I kept skipping over it. I have no idea why I chose to give it a shot this time (maybe it was the sex room 😀) but I'm glad I did. Mr. Harmon had my curiosity stirred in the first chapter. I found myself so totally engrossed in this book that I had a hard time putting it down. I'm about to start the second book in this series and I'm hoping it will continue this amazing journey that Brian Harmon has created. Great job Brian! I have just added you to my favorite author list.
