MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS - I am not sure why this book didn't meet my tastes, maybe because ex-SEAL Mark & CIA Agent Charlie are too much alike - which makes them bicker & argue all the time. Also it was very heavy on the storyline and very light on romance, in my opinion. The story is pretty difficult to follow - Charlie's father was killed & Mark's security team have been targeted as well. Charlie tries to stand strong that she cannot enter into a fling or a relationship with her life being in turmoil, and yet she can't resist Mark. In the end they become teammates & things get pretty brutal & violent. I can't even remember a lot of the details of their relationship because I couldn't quite relate to these two. I did enjoy when Charlie finally let her guard down & let Mark into her heart, only for a moment of peace before Mark believes Charlie screwed him over.

Ms Michaels is quickly becoming my favorite author! This is such an an amazing series and only keeps getting better and better with each book. Even though it's hard to top Liam and Natalie's story Mark and Charlie came pretty close. This author never fails to deliver a beautiful love story every single time. Very few authors have the ability to write a thought provoking story, steamy as hell sex scenes, hilarious one liners, and awesome characters you fall in love with. You know an author is truly gifted when you find yourself highlighting whole paragraphs and not just one liners.

Mark is a strong ass ex Navy Seal and Charlie is an even stronger CIA Agent. They are working together, Mark to find the person responsible for sabotaging his men and previous missions and Charlie to find the terrorist responsible for her fathers death. I love Mark's smart ass mouth and Charlie gives as good as she gets. Who wouldn't love a kick ass heroine who can fire a weapon better than any man and still loves her shoes and handbags too. And their chemistry is off the charts! One of the best first meetings ever!

Mark I don't have a moment to take sight. Charlie doesn't hesitate. No more than a breath passes before she raises the nine and shoots him in the head. "I'm in love. It's official. I'm going to blow my effing load right here."

So we know that Ms. Michaels can write an Alpha male. We know Ms. Michaels can write a killer cliffy. But can she write the Alpha in a book without a cliffy in one book and still make us swoon like we did for Jackson and Liam?

YES! Mark "Twilight" Dixon is everything you thought he was going to be. No. Lie. He's funny, he's tough, he's smart and even has a side of romance. Who, knew?

Charlie is amazing. She's tough, smart and doesn't need a man. Right? She played a part in the whole "rescue Aaron" operation that we find out more about in this book. I genuinely loved her. I don't do "meh-indecisive-help me" type women and Charlie is the exact opposite. She holds her own and still manages to be sweet at the same time.

These two have chemistry in spades. She fights it like a champ but then she looks up and realizes she can't live life without Mark. They are perfect for each other and while they enjoy the banter (because there is a lot and I found myself cracking up), they also enjoy working on the same case and find themselves slowly falling in love.

In the end, this book ends up being a great love story with a strong side of suspense and pinch of "crap I didn't see that coming." But at the core, it's classic Corinne Michaels and thankfully she didn't give us a cliffy because Mark Dixon in a cliffy wouldn't have worked at all. She would have had people beating down her door!
Corrine Michaels has done it again. Although Defenseless can be read as a standalone, I've been following these Navy SEALS since we first met them in Beloved. There was always something about Mark that I just knew he'd be the one to completely capture my heart. Even when I was obsessed with Liam in The Consolations Series, Mark was barreling his way to my heart with his wit and sarcasm.

Ever the loyal friend, teammate and "brother," Mark embarks on his journey to seek answers to why Cole Security has been targeted with devastating situations. He teams up with Charlie, who is a CIA spy that has connections with these situations. We've always gotten to see the funny, sarcastic side of Mark. This is the first time we get to see the softer, more series side of him. When he first meets Charlie, he already knows she's the one for him.

" Charlie's eyes glimmer, and I know right then that this woman will not be owned, but she sure as s*** will own me."

Of course, Charlie isn't having it. She's very committed to her job with the CIA. She has built up walls and constructed her life to be all about the CIA. She's been groomed by her father for this life and it's all she can see as her end goal. I absolutely adore Charlie. One, she's a complete badass. Two, she doesn't take s*** from anyone. Three, she ends up showing her vulnerable side, proving that the badass CIA is just as human as the rest of us. There is absolutely a lot of push and pull while we ride along with Charlie's roller coaster of emotions to fight off her growing affection for Mark. When she finally falls, she falls hard.

" I let go of my training. I let the wall crumble and become ash. My heart is what I'm listening to this time, and my heart wants Mark Dixon."

What I really liked about this book was the plot twists and the way I had to keep guessing about who was behind all of the things that are targeted around Charlie and the guys from Cole Security. There were so many moving parts and I enjoyed the journey that it took me on.

I'd like to apologize to my friends that I kept texting over and over again about how great this book was. I'm pretty sure they cringed for a few days when they saw my name pop up on their phones. I was that annoying. Well job, Corrine. You once again brought down the house!
